UH’s Newborns in Need program exists to give every baby delivered at University Health a healthy start in life. Not every family is showered with gifts when Baby arrives. For families living in poverty, this means some tough choices. Dinner or diapers? Pay the bills, or purchase a safe sleep sack? Now, this special giving program lets you shower a newborn with some love… plus some of the essentials and little extras he or she needs for the best start in life.

Can I drop off purchased items for babies at TMC?

We’ll never turn down a donation! However, your financial donations to the Newborns in Need program make it possible for the nursing staff to purchase just what’s needed, when it’s needed most – whether that’s car seats for triplets, the tiniest diapers for babies in our Level III NICU, or the perfect sleep sack for a newborn with special needs.

What if you end up with too many items?

Each year, close to 3,500 babies enter the world at University Health. That’s nearly half of all babies born in Jackson County, and nearly 80% of those are born into poverty. So you can give confidently, knowing that your donation is urgently needed. In fact, 100% of your donation will be directed to TMC’s Newborns in Need Fund. You’re making a real difference – that’s a great feeling!

Is my donation the same as a purchase?

Your gift to Newborns in Need is different from a purchase in two very important ways. First, your gift is a tax-deductible donation. Second, your generosity is combined with everyone who supports Newborns in Need. For instance, an $8 donation may be used for a crib sheet, or it may be combined with other donations to provide a car seat, if that’s the greatest need for our new families. Either way, 100% of your donation is going directly to shower a baby with these essentials for a healthy start.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes! The TMC Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to helping University Health care for our community – regardless of income or insurance status. Every gift to the Newborns in Need program is tax-deductible. Thank you for standing with us! #vitalKC #loveTMC #inthistogether
